Mining

The Mining Industry is a Staple to Economic Growth in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz Mining Production

  • Kyrgyzstan has over a one-hundred year history in industrial development of deposits
  • Kyrgyzstan's share in Soviet Union’s production of minerals was 15-18% of lead, 40-100% of mercury, 100% of antimony, 30% of rare-earth metals and 15% of uranium production
  • Four main mineral deposit groups:
    • Metals (gold)
    • Nonmetals
    • Fuel
    • Energy resources and underground waters

Key Minerals

  • Ferrous metals
  • Non-ferrous metals
  • Noble metals
  • Rare and rare-earth metals
  • Alluvial elements
  • Radioactive raw materials
  • Fuel minerals

Main Enterprises

  • Kadamjay Antimony Enterprise (KAE) produced approximately 15% of world’s antimony production
  • Khaydarkan Mercury Enterprise (KME) has been operating on the world’s largest antimony-mercury mine in Khaydarkan for 70 years. The output of metal in 1989 reached 793 thousand tons, which was more than 25% of world’s production
  • Kara-Balta Mining Enterprise (KBME) was built in 1951 as a uranium-processing enterprise. This enterprise provided up to 20% of Soviet Union’s uranium production
